RYA DSC/VHF Radio
Come along to our fully equipped classroom and be taught face to face in the normal manner by one of our qualified instructors.
We teach using training radios that behave in exactly the same way as the radio on your own boat, and practice is provided in the correct use of both DSC and voice communications.
A session on emergency beacons such as EPIRB (emergency position indicating radio beacon) and SART (search and rescue radar transponder) is included to provide an insight into long range distress alerting equipment.
At the end of the day there is a formal assessment conducted by an independent assessor. This takes the form of a practical examination of radio skills and a written paper.
On Line Option
You will be given access to the course which can be completed in your own time on your home computer (the computer must have a microphone and a speaker).
Then come into the classroom to carry out the assessment with one of our instructors.
After you have completed the online course, you are now ready to take the RYA Short Range Certificate exam. This is taken at a RYA Training Centre that runs the RYA Short Range Certificate courses, the RYA fee for the exam is £60 payable to the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) on the day of your exam.
You will need to take with you the following:
- Download / Print – SRC Application form
- Download / Print – SRC Exam payment form
- SRC Exam eligibility and report card. (We will post this out)
- A Passport type photograph
If you are taking the final SRC exam with another Training Centre other than Quality Time Training, we will need to know who you will be taking the final SRC exam with, ie the Training centre name and if possible the the date of the SRC exam as we have to send the final SRC report form direct to the RYA Training centre.
Please note: If you do not live close to our RYA Training SRC exam centre, we will email you a RYA search result of all RYA SRC Training Centres in your area/postcode that can provide you with the final RYA SRC Practical face to face exam.
Please be aware that some centres may not be able to take you for your final exam at short notice or may have to have a group of students to run the examination.
Please have a look at the RYA DSC/VHF Taster Course on the RYA website.
Alternatively there is a You tube video of the online course available.
On line and classroom option
We will provide the On Line Course free of charge, plus 2 hours of classroom tuition for the price of the classroom course. Complete the on line course and then attend at our classroom for additional tuition followed by the independent assessment.
