International Certificate of Competence (ICC)

International Certificate of Competence (ICC)

A two day course providing hands on boat handling instruction and theoretical seamanship intended for those who require a qualification to drive powered craft in European waters.

The course benefits those with no previous experience of handling a boat of any description, and will provide the candidate with the theoretical and practical know-how to safely take charge of small planing and displacement craft. The course culminates in a short practical test together with an assessment of the candidate’s theoretical knowledge.

Successful candidates will be authorised to apply to the RYA for the International Certificate of Competence and will be issued with either the RYA Helmsman Certificate or RYA Level 2 Power Boat Certificate.

For those intending to venture onto the inland waterways of Europe then an additional qualification called a CEVNI (Code Europeen des Voies de la Navigation Interieure) will be required.

An ICC qualification may also be obtained against an existing RYA practical qualification by applying directly to the RYA, or by undertaking a direct assessment of boat handling and theory skills.
